Intermediate Violin Course (10 Weeks)

Develop your violin playing from early Grade 3 towards Grade 5 level.

Introduction

Welcome to the Intermediate Violin Course, a 10-week in-person programme (90 minutes per week), designed to help you develop secure intermediate-level technique and musicianship.

This course is for learners who have completed the Beginner Violin Course or are playing at around Grade 2 level and above. It will help you consolidate your existing skills, extend your technique, and explore more challenging repertoire with confidence.

You'll also learn:

  • Violin Technique: Refine your existing technique, then start to build the skills you need to tackle more advanced repertoire.
  • Reading Music: Develop greater fluency in reading more complex music, and build confidence with intermediate-level sight-reading.
  • How to Practise: Learn how to practise effectively in order to develop a secure technique and make speedy progress.
  • How to Perform: Develop the skills and confidence to perform in front of a live audience!

Course Curriculum
In this 10-week course, you will explore a wide range of topics, including:

  • Developing Expressive Vibrato
  • Chromatic Scales
  • Advanced Finger Patterns
  • Intonation (playing in tune)
  • Double Stopping and Chords
  • Tone Production
  • Natural and Artificial Harmonics
  • Sight-Reading
  • Shifting (including 2nd and 3rd position)
  • Intermediate Bowing Techniques (String Crossing, Off-String Strokes)
  • Coordination and Dexterity
  • Rhythm and Pulse
  • Practising

Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for committed learners who are ready to move beyond the Beginner level. It is suitable for players who have completed the Beginner Violin Course or who are working at around Grade 2–3 level, and who can play fluently across first position using all four fingers.

Course Requirements
To enroll in this course, you'll need your own violin and bow. We also recommend buying a music stand.

To take part in the Intermediate Violin Course you will need to be playing fluently in 1st position (in time, in tune, with a good sound) and have some basic experience of 3rd position and minor scale patterns.

Course Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a record of achievement certifying that you have completed the Intermediate Violin Course!
